7digital What we said: It could all have been a horrible mess: a concept album loosely based around the American Civil War, peppered with spoken word interludes and the odd smattering of bagpipes. And yet, from the opening Abraham Lincoln quotation to the closing flourish of feedback, Titus Andronicus’ ridiculously ambitious second album relentlessly enthralled all who heard it. With singer Patrick Stickles coming across like Conor Oberst after a particularly bad day at the office, and ten tracks of riotous punk rock steeped in lo-fi guitar fuzz, The Monitor proved that though the New Jersey four-piece may not be the city’s most famous sons, they’re certainly its most fascinating residents.
