7digital What we said: Revered as French Touch trailblazers by some and snobbishly dismissed as “bloghouse” also-rans by others, Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé polarised opinion when they first emerged in the early noughties. More than a decade on from their ubiquitous Simian Mobile Disco remix, there’s no debating the fact that Justice have outlived many of the fad genres they were initially associated with, nor that they’ve lodged their muscular synth riffs in the mainstream’s consciousness. On this follow-up to 2011’s Audio Video Disco, the Parisian duo dial down the hair-metal and prog-rock influences and dabble in lush disco (‘Safe and Sound’) and Knight Rider-ready electro-funk (‘Alkazam!’) with sparkling results throughout. A refreshingly-uplifting listen, much needed at the tail-end of a bleak year.
