Of course, now they can command the attention of the nation, the trio are intent on world domination, and have unleashed this 56-minute-long opus to prove it. Split into the thematically-bleak The Sand at the Core of Our Bones and the more optimistic The Land at the End of Our Toes, their sixth studio album combines the stadium-friendly choruses that Only Revolutions fans demand, with enough artistic progression to keep the hardcore engaged, including the addition of bagpipes, choirs and a mariachi band. Whether Opposites joins Physical Graffiti, Electric Ladyland and London Calling in the pantheon of all-time great double albums, only time will tell, but there’s no knocking their ambition.
